The Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef

Not sure if everyone has heard about this, but I wanted to put the word out there about this beautiful and fascinating exhibit on display at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C.

It will only be there until April 24, 2011, so if you are able, I strongly recommend seeing it.  It was a collaborative effort by crocheters around the country to promote awareness of the fragility of real live coral reefs.

From the site: “By working through this process and viewing the art, one can see the correlation between the crocheted reefs and living corals, such as the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.  The fragility of the coral reefs is echoed by their crocheted counterparts.”

Now I am a die-hard knitter, but I participated in the project too and learned how to crochet in the process, here was my contribution, don’t laugh…still learning:-)

So, check it out if you can, if you’ve already been, tell me…how did you like it?  I’d love to hear your thoughts 🙂
