Free Crochet Pattern…Flower Patch Button Wrap

The Flower Patch Button Wrap is a lacy, airy, and versatile piece that can be worn in lots of different ways.  Wear it as a wrap, a shawlette, a cowl, or a mini scarf!  Two buttons help secure it in place and lacy holes from the stitch pattern create natural buttonholes.  Perfect to wear when you need something pretty to throw over your shoulders for any season!

Flower Patch Button Wrap

By Jennifer Dickerson

Materials:

  • 6.0 mm (J) hook
  • 1 Skein Araucania Toconao Multy, 139 yards, Aran Weight (Wrap as shown used the entire skein, if making yours longer, please adjust yarn amounts)
  • 2 Buttons (Be sure they fit through holes before sewing them on, buttons shown are 1 inch wide)
  • Tapestry needle

Sizing:

  • Width-7 inches wide
  • Length-wrap as shown is 36 inches long, but make any length desired by adding more rows.

Instructions:

Ch 34

Row 1: In the 6th chain from the hook, work 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the same chain. Skip five chains and work 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the same chain.  Repeat this sequence until you reach the last 4 chains.  Skip three chains, and in the last chain, work a dc.

Row 2: Ch 3, turn and work 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc in each of the chain 2 spaces from the previous row (center of each v-shaped cluster). At the end of the row, finish with a dc (the chain 3 turning space from the previous row).

Repeat row 2 until wrap is desired length.  If you will be wearing your garment as a wrap, be sure to wrap it around yourself before finishing for best fit.

Finishing:

Weave in ends and sew buttons as shown below.  I sewed them to the starting edge because I wanted the scalloped edge on the other end (formed by the stitch pattern) to show when buttoned.  Be sure to slip buttons through the holes before sewing to be sure they’ll fit.

(Block lightly if desired)

I used a yarn scrap to attach the buttons to the wrap so it would match too…

Here are two more ways to wear the wrap…

as a loose and light cowl,

Or as an around the shoulders wrap too!

Here’s another view of it flat on a table too:

  2. Jenn, you are the stitchiest!! What a FABULOUS pattern! And the yarn is amazing! I've never heard of it; do you have a recommendation for a substitute? I'd never be able to find the one you used. And I absolutely love your flair of coming up with so many different ways to wear a piece! Your taste is impeccable! <3

    1. Oh my goodness, you are so sweet! Any aran weight yarn would be good, I would recommend doing a little swatch to be sure that you love the yarn before starting. Sometimes the variegated yarns look good wound on a hank, but don't always look quite right for all projects. I always take the yarn for a "test drive" Hope that helps!

  3. thank you so much for sharing! I can't wait to make a spring one!! Then a fall one, then a winter one….

    1. I know exactly what you mean! When I finished this one I started digging around for some fallish yarn for the next one too! 🙂

    1. Yes! Highlight needed text, then select copy, and paste it to a word document. That way you only get what you want and you can save it too. That's what I do, hope that helps! 🙂

  4. can you let us know which colour number yarn you have used so that I can source it here in the UK thankyou

  5. Oh now you got me thinking on what perfect color to substitute to this! I just love the color combination! Too perfect not to follow!

  6. I've made two already! The first one was with 427 (as pictured) and the second was the same yarn in verigated blues and purples. They are beautiful! I made the second one a little more narrow (30 stitches) and a little longer so it could be used over the shoulders. I gave one to my sister today for her birthday. She whipped it on and was thrilled.

    1. They all sound lovely! I'm so glad your sister liked hers too…nothing like a hand stitched gift made with love:)

  7. This is gorgeous- I'm hoping to make one of these using Manos Del Uruguay Silk Blend DK yarn in Wildflower 🙂

    1. Actually changed my mind- will probably use Araucania Tepa in shade 1784 as the skein of Silk Blend DK is a bit knotted at present and I'm itching to make this 🙂

  8. This is lovely! Starting to work on Christmas gifts and I think I'm going to make this one (or perhaps another one of your scarves). Picking yarn is the hardest part!
