How to Crochet A Heart (Stitch by Stitch)

A dear reader asked for some help crocheting her heart, so I thought this might be helpful…a stitch by stitch guide to crocheting your own heart.  This heart was made using the Tiny One Round Hearts Pattern.

To begin, I used some cotton yarn and and H (5.0 mm) hook.  I especially love that blue…

Begin with a slip knot,

Then chain 4,

Then join with a slip stitch to form a ring,

Work one double crochet in the center of the ring,

then work one treble crochet in the center of the ring,

and another double crochet in the center.  The top left of the heart is complete!

Now work one slip stitch into the center,

Now work one double crochet into the center,

and one treble crochet.

and one double crochet.  The top half is finished!

Now work three single crochet into the center of the ring,

and one treble crochet to make the bottom point.

Now work three more double crochet to finish.

Close with a slip stitch and fasten off.

One more tip, to snug up and close that center hole, flip your heart over…

and gently pull the string tightly to close up the hole.  Trim excess yarn.

And now you have a sweet little heart!

  1. Jennifer, as a ''forever beginner'' I am so grateful to you for taking the time to make this tutorial! I'm self-taught, and crochet is the only craft I've had trouble learning. I really seem to need exactly what you so kindly did.
With much appreciation, Lisa in Oregon 🙂
