  • J (6.0 mm) Crochet Hook
  • Tapestry Needle

Sizing:

  • 7 inches wide

Ch 23

Row 1: In the fourth ch from the hook, (dc, ch 1) three times, then 1 dc all in the same ch.  *Skip 3 ch, then (dc, ch 1) three times, then 1 dc all in next ch, repeat from * to last three ch, skip two ch, and in the last ch, work 1 dc.  There should be 5 fans across.

Row 2: Chain 3 and turn.  In the center of each fan from the previous row, work (dc, ch 1) three times, then 1 dc all in the space in the center of the fan.  There should be 5 fans across when you complete the row.  Work a dc in the turning chain space.

Repeat row 2 until scarf is desired length.

Finishing:

Weave in all ends and seam the ends to make a long loop.  Alternatively, you could skip the seaming and make it a traditional scarf.

  1. Love the pattern, but I have done and redone the first row twice and I come up with six fans across not five. Am I reading the pattern correctly? Thank you for sharing it.

    1. Hi Jill! Thanks for your question…I just worked up row 1 a few times just now to be sure too. I keep getting 5 fans, I wanted to ask, are you putting a fan in the last chain or 1 double crochet? It should be one double crochet, if a fan is worked in the last ch, the scarf will grow wider, but working just one dc in the last ch keeps it a rectangular shape. Not sure if that happened, but I thought that might help?

  2. I was having the same trouble as Jill until I went back and re-read the instructions: I was missing the "skip two chains" before doing the final double crochet in the last chain. All is well now! 🙂 Thank you for the lovely pattern!

  3. I am a beginner to crocheting but I am having really good success with your instructions and photos. I am not very good at seaming the ends together to make them infinity scarves. They just don't looks very neat. any tips? perhaps some photos?
Thanks for all your beautiful patterns!

  4. Hi Jill. I was also getting 6 fans but it looks like the pattern was updated. When it was downloaded to my Evernote account, it stated chain 25 which would give 6 fans. Jennifer did change it to be chain 23 and now it makes 5 fans. The scarf is coming out very lovely. Hope you get to try it again! -Rae

  5. Just completed this scarf and I love it. One skein came up a little shorter than the 52 inches, bu it still works for an infinity scarf. Thanks so much for sharing all of your beautiful pattern with us. Happy New Years!

  6. This is my second scarf I've made using your patterns! My first one was the pavement infinity scarf, which I get compliments on all the time! I used Carons Simply Soft Yarn for the Gold Leaf infinity scarf….it turned out beautiful! I also decided to crochet a single crochet border around the scarf after finishing…it turned out great!

Thank you so much for your free patterns 🙂

  7. I love the pattern , but was wondering if there was a way to make it wider. Would you mind sharing the stitch repeat to make it wider. Thank you again for the lovely pattern

    1. I'm guessing that you would want to add groups of 4 chains for each additional fan, because you work the fan into 1 chain and then skip 3 for the foundation row. So for 6 fans chain 27, for 7 chain 31, etc. I could be wrong but that is my guess!

  8. i've just finished crocheting this scarf and intend to make it an infinity scarf. I looked at the tutorials you posted above on slip stitch joining and whip stitch, and am still having trouble making it look neat. because the first row of fans results in a stretched out stitch (the ones the fans are stitched into) it's a little awkward figuring out where to slip the stitches in the foundation chain. It's also a challenge because the foundation row is straight-edged, but the edge of the final row is sort of scalloped from the fan shape. Would it be possible to put up a tutorial on how to join this particular sort of scarf? Or could you at least put close-ups of the seam on yours up? Also just in case it's relevant, i used worsted weight yarn and a pretty big hook (it says size 13, about the thickness of a pen). I wanted it to have more drape hence the big hook, but now I wonder if this is adding to they "holey" appearance esp. when seaming. Please let me know your thoughts! Even if there's no good way for me to seam this, thanks for sharing this pattern!

    1. Hi, I am also having trouble joining this infinity scarf. Is there any tutorial to join this particular scarf. Many thanks.

  9. Is there a Beanie or cap that so goes with this …Gold Leaf Infinity Scarf? If so where can I see it?

  10. Hi Jennifer, I made this scarf/cowl and am thrilled with it but like Mary Khal above I would like to make a matching hat/cap/beanie. I tried making my own patter but it was a disaster, I don't have enough crocheting experience to understand the underlying principles. Thank you!

  11. This crochet pattern – gold-leaf infinity scarf is very beautiful. It is lacy and luxurious with fabulous drape which it makes look beautiful and elegant. Perfect for the party! 🙂 😉

  15. Hi Jennifer! Just wanted to thank you so much for sharing this tutorial – it was absolutely beautiful, and simple enough for a total beginner to follow. I made this scarf about six weeks ago and I'm calling it a 'gateway scarf' because it showed me that making awesome things that aren't just 'long rectangle of double crochet' isn't scary. Thank you!!

  16. Hi Jennifer! I made your beautiful pattern yesterday. It took me 6 hours to do it. Very, very easy pattern. I had a day off from work and decided to do it. It is beautiful. I have a question. Do you have to expand it once you finish the pattern? Thanks again, Ana

  18. hi Jennifer,
i'm working on the gold leaf infinity scarf and i feel like it's curving in on the bottom. my foundation chain curves concave in relation the scarf if that makes sense. i'm using Caron Simply Soft 4 weight acrylic with the recommended 5mm H hook. when i pull and staighten a little it looks better. i'm wondering if it'll correct itself as i go on. i'm on the sixth row.
wish i could send you a pic.
it's otherwise very pretty but i'd like to know i should start over.
    wudiya think?

  19. I've made several of these over the winter and donated to our local homeless shelter plus have given as gifts to friends and family. The response has been remarkable. Barcelona yarn from Michael's has worked out beautifully. (have a photo but don't know how to share) Can't thank you enough for this pattern – it's perfect and creates such a memorable scarf.
