I used cotton dishcloth yarn and a 5 mm crochet hook, but you can use any yarn…just check the label for the recommended hook size for your yarn.

Round One

Step 1: Make a slip knot on your hook.

Step 2: Chain 4 and join in the last chain from the hook with a slip stitch to form a ring.

Step 3: Chain 6

Step 4: Work 3 double crochet into the ring, then chain 3.

Step 5: Chain 3

Step 6: Work 3 dc into the center of the ring, then chain 3.

Step 7: Work 2 double crochet into the space where the round started (where the ch 6 was made at the beginning of the round).  Join to close round with a slip stitch in the third chain of the beginning chain of the round.  Note: The 6 chains at the beginning of the round–3 count as a dc, the other 3 count as the ch-3 space.

Round Two

Step 8: Tie on a new color and chain 6.

Step 12: In the last space (same space where the round started) work two more double crochet, then join in the third chain with a slip stitch to close round.

Round Three

Step 13: Tie on a new color and chain 6.  In the same space, work 3 double crochet, then chain 1.

Step 14: In the next space, work 3 dc, then chain 1.

Step 15: In the next space, work 3 double crochet, chain 3, 3 double crochet, then chain 1.

Step 16: In the next space, wok 3 double crochet, chain 1.

Step 17: Work the next triangle corner in the next space by working 3 double crochet, chain 3, 3 double crochet, then chain 1.

Step 18: Work the final side of the triangle, by working 3 double crochet, then chain 1.

Step 19: Finish the round by working 2 double crochet in the last space (where the round began), then join to close round with a slip stitch in the third chain.

To add more rounds to the triangle, see the information below.

You can keep adding rounds by working the triangle the same way as the previous round, the only thing that will change is that each side will have an extra double crochet cluster.  The corners of the triangle are always worked the same way.  In the photo above, the blue round has one dc cluster on each triangle side, and the green round has 2 of the dc clusters per triangle side.  If we were to add another round, each side would have three of the dc clusters.
