Autumn Glow Crochet Fingerless Mitts, Free Pattern + Video

The Autumn Glow Crochet Fingerless Mitts are a fun and fast project to welcome fall! Crocheted in a lovely autumn shade in supersoft seasonal yarn. They are also finished with a decorative button too and work great for keeping hands cozy and fingers free. There are two sizes offered, a smaller size and larger size, with full instructions for both.  If you need a little help, there’s a full video tutorial too!

Abbreviations and Tutorial Links:

Materials:

  • 5.0 mm H crochet hook
  • 1/2 skein Bijou Spun Himalaya Trail by Bijou Basin Ranch, colorway shown is “Sunshine”  Note: this is a fingering weight yarn if yarn substitutions need to be made.
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • 2 buttons (any size, for decoration only)

Smaller Sizing:

  • 5 inches tall
  • 8 inches circumference

Larger Sizing:

  • 5 inches tall
  • 9 inches circumference

Instructions For The Smaller Size:

Ch 33, join with a sl st in furthest ch from the hook.

Round 1: Ch 3, then dc in each ch around.  Join to close in top ch of turning ch with a sl st to close round.

Round 2: Ch 3, then *work a fpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a bpdc in each of the next two stitches.  Repeat from * to end of round, then join to close round with a sl st.

Round 3: Ch 3, then *work a bpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a fpdc in each of the next two stitches.  Repeat from * to end of round, then join to close round with a sl st.

Repeat rounds 2 and 3 until you have a total of 8 rounds.  For a longer cuff, you can work more rounds at this point.

Left Mitt Only:

Thumb hole round 1:  Ch 3, then *work a bpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a fpdc in each of the next two stitches.  Chain 8, then skip over the next 6 stitches, then *work a fpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a bpdc in each of the next two stitches.  Repeat from * to end of round, then join to close round with a sl st.

Thumb hole round 2: Ch 3, then *work a fpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a bpdc in each of the next two stitches.  Repeat from * until you arrive at the thumb hole (ch 8 space) and work 6 dc into the space, then *work a fpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a bpdc in each of the next two stitches.  Repeat from * to end of round, then join to close round with a sl st.

Right Mitt Only:

Thumb hole round 1: Ch 3, then *work a bpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a fpdc in each of the next two stitches.  Repeat until 10 stitches remain on the round (a stitch marker will help mark the spot if needed).  Chain 8, then skip the next 6 stitches, *work a fpdc in each of the next two stitches, the a bpdc in each of the last two stitches on the round.  Join to close round with a sl st.

Thumb hole round 2: Ch 3, then *work a fpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a bpdc in each of the next two stitches.  Repeat from * until you arrive at the thumbhole (ch 8 space) and work 6 dc into the space, then *work a fpdc in the last two stitches, then join to close round with a sl st.

Instructions for Top of Mitt:

Repeat round 3 one time, then repeat rounds 2 and 3 for a total of six rounds.  You can work more rounds of this section for a taller top section if you like.

Instructions For The Larger Size:

Ch 37, join with a sl st in furthest ch from the hook.

Round 1: Ch 3, then dc in each ch around.  Join to close in top ch of turning ch with a sl st to close round.

Round 2: Ch 3, then *work a fpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a bpdc in each of the next two stitches.  Repeat from * to end of round, then join to close round with a sl st.

Round 3: Ch 3, then *work a bpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a fpdc in each of the next two stitches.  Repeat from * to end of round, then join to close round with a sl st.

Repeat rounds 2 and 3 until you have a total of 8 rounds.  For a longer cuff, you can work more rounds at this point.

Left Mitt Only: 

Thumb hole round 1: Ch 3, then *work a bpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a fpdc in each of the next two stitches.  Chain 10, then skip over the next 8 stitches, then *work a fpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a bpsc in each of the next two stitches.  Repeat from * to end of round, then join to close round with a sl st.

Thumb hole round 2: Ch 3, then *work a fpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a bpdc in each of the next two stitches.  Repeat from * until you arrive at the thumb hole (ch 10 space) and work 8 dc into the space, then *work a fpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a bpdc in each of the next two stitches.  Repeat from * to end of round, then join to close round with a sl st.

Right Mitt Only:

Thumb hole round 1: Ch 3, then *work a bpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a fpdc in each of the next two stitches.  Repeat until 12 stitches remain on the round (a stitch marker will help mark the spot if needed).  Chain 10, then skip the next 8 stitches, *work a fpdc in each of the next two stitches, the a bpdc in each of the last two stitches on the round.  Join to close round with a sl st.

Thumb hole round 2:  Ch 3, then *work a fpdc in each of the next two stitches, then a bpdc in each of the next two stitches.  Repeat from * until you arrive at the thumb hole (ch 10 space) and work 8 dc into the space, then *work a fpdc in the last two stitches, then join to close round with a sl st.

Instructions for Top of Mitt:

Repeat round 3 one time, then repeat rounds 2 and 3 for a total of six rounds.  You can work more rounds of this section for a taller top section if you like.

Finishing & Assembly:

Weave in any ends and sew the button as shown on the wrist area. Your Autumn Glow Crochet Fingerless Mitts are complete!

  2. These are so easy, and it was my first time doing the fpdc & bpdc stitches. I added rows at the top and bottom (just dc) for extra warmth. Thank you, Jennifer! I will be making many pairs for gifts = ]
