Classic Crochet Shawls Review + Giveaway!

I have a fabulous review & giveaway for you today lovelies! I was recently able to check out Classic Crochet Shawls from the Editors at Interweave (ISBN: 978-1-63250-610-8, Interweave F+W).

Inside are 20 gorgeous shawls perfect for just about anyone. I wear a shawl or wrap all four seasons of the year, from cold winters days, to cool summer nights. They are perfect gifts too beacuse you don't have to size them and you can experiment with different stitches and techniques too! I love how the book includes more traditional looking lacy projects, but also more modern geometric pieces as well.

Classic Crochet Shawls is beautifully photographed in full color and complete with easy to navigate charts, guides, and diagrams to make things extra helpful. This book is absolutely packed with different techniques like motif work, filet crochet, broomstick lace, mesh, and a whole lot more!  The yarn used to make each project is as varied as the techniques with chunkier fibers to delicate light lace weight pieces.

Don't miss the learning resources in the back with an illustrated techniques section, a guide to abbreviations, and a very handy metric conversion chart too. Classic Crochet Shawls will help you along each step of the way to make your own shawl extra fabulous!

One of my favorite projects from the book would have to be this coral/peach shawl...completely loving that lacy fan stitch...so lovely!

2017 Fiber Flux Summer CAL! Week 2 Multiples, Stitch Tutorial, Switching Colors

Welcome back for week 2 of the 2017 Fiber Flux Spring Crochet Along! Today we'll be learning how to size your blanket with multiples, the ripple stitch tutorial from start to finish, and how to change colors and/or add a new ball of yarn.

Add this project to your Ravelry queue by clicking on the button below:

*This is a self-paced project, so definitely go at the speed you feel most comfortable. The instructional videos and posts will be up forever and you will always be able to go back and watch again and again!

Because there are those of you who prefer a written pattern and those who prefer a video tutorial, below are both. Either way, be sure to check out the video for additional information, plus helpful tips too!

Here's this week's CAL video:

Instructions:

(Blanket as shown is worked in a color stripe sequence of 6 rows of each color)

Ch 155 (multiple of 10+5)

Row 1: In the 4th ch from the hook work a dc, then work a dc in each of the next 4 ch. *Skip 2 ch, then work a dc in each of the next 4 ch. Ch 2, then work a dc in each of the next 4 ch. Repeat from * across until there is 1 ch left. Work 2 dc in that last ch.

Row 2: Ch 3 and turn. Work a dc into the first dc. Work a dc in each of the next 4 sts. *Skip the next 2 sts, then work a dc in each of the next 3 sts. Work a (dc, ch 2, dc) in the ch 2 space from the previous row, then work a dc in each of the next 3 sts. Repeat from * until 6 sts remain. Skip the next two sts, then work a dc in each of the next 4 sts. Work 2 dc in the topmost ch of the turning ch.

Repeat row 2 until blanket is 90 inches tall if making the twin size like in the tutorial or desired height.

Need a different size? Here are some common blanket sizes. While they don't have to be exactly made in these dimensions, you can use this as a general guideline. Fo example, if you need more overhang around a bed, you might need to make your blanket a little bit bigger. Use the multiple count (above) to get desired width, and work as many rows as it takes to get the blanket you're after.

OK, let's take a quick peek at the schedule...last week we talked a little bit about the blanket and went over supplies needed:

Summer CAL Color Inspiration! 25+ Color Palette Ideas for Your Blanket

Good morning crocheters!  As we are gearing up for the Summer CAL (in case you missed yesterday's post, here's week 1, intro and supplies), I made this fun post to give you some crochet along inspiration...so much fun!

So many of you have been sharing your color choices and others have been asking about additional colors to be used...I though it would be lots of fun to put some additional palettes together.  Each one is 4 colors, the same number I'm using in the tutorials, the make nice and easy to follow along.  Pick and choose what you like, or use them as a springboard for your own inspirations!  Which one is your favorite?

Shop Red Heart, America's Favorite Yarn

(affiliate link)

All of the yarn shown below is Red Heart Super Saver, for those of you who can't get this yarn in your country, Red Heart Super Saver is an Aran weight yarn that recommends a 5.5 mm "I" crochet hook.  Stick with those guidelines and you'll be fine!  Please be aware not all colors are available everywhere:

Although I'm using the "no dye lot solids" for my blanket, I've included some of the multis, prints, etc for more ideas...please note that their yardage is slightly different:

  • No Dye Lot Solids: 364 yards
  • Prints & Multis: 236 yards
  • Flecks: 260 yards
  • Stripes: 236 yards
  • Accent: 202 yards
  • Ombre: 482 yards
  • Plus, Red Heart makes jumbo versions of the Super Saver too--solids are 744 yards and multis are 482 yards.
