How To Knit A Cowl for the Absolute Beginner!

Curious about knitting? Ready to give it a try? This knitted cowl is a super easy and beautiful project to get you started! Using one basic stitch and knitted flat, this is an ideal first project. Self striping cake yarn makes changing colors a breeze too. Are you a seasoned knitter? This cowl is also a wonderfully relaxing project for those cooler days of fall!

Absolute Beginner Knit Cowl

Materials:

  • 1 pair US 10.5 (6.5 mm) straight knitting needles 
  • 1 yarn cake of Sweet Roll from Premiere (245 yards, I used the “Punch Pop” colorway) 
  • Tapestry Needle 
  • Scissors 
  • Measuring Tape

Sizing:

  • 36 inch circumference
  • 10 inches wide

Abbreviations and Tutorial Links:

Instructions:

CO 35 sts.

Rows 1: K all sts.

Repeat row 1 until piece measures about 36 inches from cast on edge.

BO all sts, leaving a long tail (18-24 inches)

Seam edges together using the remanning tail with the whip stitch.

Weave in any ends.
