Fall CAL Color Inspiration! 40 Color Palette Ideas for Your Shawl…

Good morning crocheters!  As we are gearing up for the Fall CAL (in case you missed yesterday’s post, here’s week 1, intro and supplies), I created this post to give you some ideas and inspiration for your project!  We’ve done this in past crochet alongs, so I thought it would be fun to do it once again!

Lots of you have been sharing your color choices and others have been asking about additional colors to be used…I though it would be lots of fun to put some additional palettes together.  Some are 3 colors like the shawl in the tutorials, but I also grabbled a bunch of the 4 color combinations from the last CAL, because there were some great ones in there too!  Pick and choose what you like, or use them as a springboard for your own inspirations!  Which one is your favorite?

All of the yarn shown below is Red Heart Super Saver, for those of you who can’t get this yarn in your country, Red Heart Super Saver is a “4” medium weight yarn that recommends a 5.5 mm “I” crochet hook.  Stick with those guidelines and you’ll be fine!  Please be aware not all colors are available everywhere.  If you love the Red Heart Soft yarn too (I’m using that for the green color in my tutorial shawl), check out those colors HERE.

As for the Super Saver, I’m using both a solid (“real teal”) and a heathered (“gray heather”), but I’ve also included some of the multis, prints, etc for more ideas…please note that their yardage is slightly different:

  • No Dye Lot Solids: 364 yards
  • Prints & Multis: 236 yards
  • Flecks: 260 yards
  • Stripes: 236 yards
  • Accent: 202 yards
  • Ombre: 482 yards
  • Plus, Red Heart makes jumbo versions of the Super Saver too–solids are 744 yards and multis are 482 yards.

  1. Many color combinations to choose and they are beautiful. Thanks for providing fantastic ideas. Looking forward to learning the stitch pattern.

  2. Is there a picture of what the whole shawl looks like? I can only find pictures of four short bands of colour but nothing that shows the shape, size or drape of the shawl. Is it a rectangle, a triangle, long, short … ?

  3. Thank you so much for posting these color pallets. I really struggle with combining colors that flow well together. This is a huge, huge frustration for me. I am planning on saving the pallet as a reference tool that I can use now and in the future.
