  1. Hi Jennifer,

I love the colors you chose for these. They truly are cheerful. Another way to use these is to make CD coasters/trivets with them.

Thanks for the site and all the free patterns.

  2. good idea on blocks for a blanket. I just may do that with them. How many round throws do you see?
Thanks for the pattern to start.

  3. I've been looking for something just like this, thank you! I purchased some inexpensive plastic coasters that have a cork insert. (Dollar General) The cork inserts got wet and become discolored and unglued. Rather than throw the coasters out, I decided to look for a crochet pattern to replace the cork. I'll be using a cotton yarn which can be cool water washed. I'm a self-taught yarn crafter, both knit and crochet and I always have 2 or 3 projects going. Thanks for sharing your ideas!

  4. Is there an error in the pattern? Do I need to do 2 Ch at the beginning of Round 1? Because otherwise, the first DC is sort of collapsed, and then the direction at the end of Rd 1, "join to third chain of beginning chain to form a slip stitch" doesn't make any sense…?

    1. Hmmm, I don't think so, but if when you are making your trivet and the ch2 makes yours not look collapsed, then I would go for it and definitely do what you were talking about…I didn't do that and mine looked fine though.

As far as your other question about the third chain to form a slip stitch…when you complete the round, you will see the stitches/chains from where you began…in order to finish the round and close the circle, all I mean is to join it to the topmost chain, otherwise it will make a "dent" or flattened area of your round.

I hope that helps! Good luck and please let me know if you have any additional questions or if I can help with anything else. 🙂

  5. My GrandMom crocheted into her 90s usually without patterns, able to figure by simply looking. Before she passed one of her desires being for one of her grandchildren to learn to crochet. This is what I am doing! Since her passing everyone she crocheted for misses the handy, practical, cool gifts as the trivets now extremely worn. Trivets aren't to be put aside as someone we love made them for there are so many uses. GrandMom believed in using what she crocheted. A hint, men seem to love trivets and towels with the crochet top(button over).

    1. What wonderful memories! So lovely too you are able to honor her memory by continuing in the crochet tradition.

  6. Thanks for all the patterns. I only crochet, and crochet patterns are harder to find. Smaller patterns are good to have for quick gifts.

    1. You're welcome…I love the smaller patterns too, I love the instant gratification and they make me feel like I got a lot accomplished! Very satisfying!

  7. Thanks for this really cute pattern. I'm always looking for little things to use up scraps. However, I was a little miffed when I went to print it off, and got 15 pages of junk before "Print this page" got anywhere near printing the page with the pattern on it. Surely these pages can be set so I don't have to print off 8 pages of nothing but the date and title, and 6 pages of comments and other ink-wasters. Sorry for the rant, but it's happened so often that I'm getting tired of it — not just on your site, but others as well.

    1. I highlight the area I want on a page and paste it to a blank email page or onto a blank openoffice text document page. Then I print only what I want. Hope this helps you.

    2. Preview any thing you want to print. Preview — you know how many pages there are and visualize each page before printing. Then select only those pages desired. Saves a lot of ink and paper.

    3. Hi folks! I just wanted to let everyone know that I've removed the print buttons…they seem to cause more trouble than they're worth…several people have had trouble with them as well. Great advice above on alternative ways to print too! Thanks!

  8. Jennifer! What a nice and easy trivet, you can crochet it even without a pattern simply looking at the picture without all these problems with printing. And I wanna share another very simple and easy coaster, it looks like a turkey, but can be crochet it as a whole circle, you may use different colors to match everything, it is a pics tutorial, so you can avoid printing problems as well http://bit.ly/U6Phza. 9. Hi Jennifer, Thank you so much for the patterns. I completed the Pavement Infinity scarf yesterday and now starting on the trivets. I'm a newbie to crocheting so I have a quick question. I'm not quite sure how to join the rounds. The first round you state to sl st to join the round. Is that what you do at the end of each round? Thanks again for your patterns!!

  10. This a very cute pattern. I wondered if I could use this pattern but use crochet thread instead of yarn? If so what size hook would I use and what other adjustments would I need to make?

    1. You could, just check the yarn label for the hook recommendation. I do want to point out that with the thread, the finished piece will be smaller too. Hope that helps!

  11. Made one last night. Very easy to follow the video. Loved it. Mine were on the small side since I keep a tight tension but it would make a great coaster. I plan to make a few more and alternate the colors I used like you did.

  12. Thanks so much for your easy to follow videos. My niece and I love making your items and love watching your videos.

    1. Did you figure out how to make it bigger? I wanted to do that also, thinking it could be just repeating the last two rounds?
