The Mulberry Crochet Shawl is a beautiful, lofty and super soft shawl that will keep you extra toasty this season. The shawl is like having a fabulous wearable blanket and is the perfect companion to a good book.  A simple but decorative stitch pattern is great for beginners and advanced crocheters alike. Makes a lovely and thoughtful gift. It is also a wonderful pattern for charity (see special notes below if making for charity).

  • Tapestry Needle (for weaving in ends)

Sizing:

  • 16 inches wide and desired length (some people like a shorter shawl that is less bulky and others like a shawl with lots of drape)

  2. I really like this one, Jenn! I think I actually have this yarn in this color! Can't wait to start it! And, as always, thanks for making this pattern available!! 😀

  3. I can't thank you enough for the beautiful and "different" patterns that you so graciously give anyone for the taking. Some of the stitches I have never tried before. I so appreciate a pattern that I know a real person has made and worked out the problems before I make it. Thanks for being so kind.

    1. You can go as wide as you want, just make sure it is an even number of starting chains to get the count correct. Happy crocheting!!

  4. I just want to tell you, I am just a beginner, but I now seek out your free patterns. You have a talent for writing a simple pattern while still producing a beautiful piece! I struggle to understand other patterns while I can glance at yours and know just what to do! Also, I love your simple yet elegant style and want to make most of your patterns for myself – thank you for sharing these, please keep posting them! 🙂

  5. Love your patterns! I'm a beginner…if I was making this using different yarn i.e. worsted weight 4, would I just buy enough balls to equal 2 skeins of the Homespun i.e. 1 skein of Homespun is 185 yards so 2 X 185 yards = 370 yards required SO I would buy enough yarn to equal at least 370 yards? Hope this makes sense.

    1. Are you holding the strands together? I think I know what you mean? I guess my best advice would be to crochet a small swatch up and see if you like the way it looks.

  6. Thank you for sharing the pattern for the lovely scarf. But a bunch of us on a crochet forum are confused by the directions in rows 1 and 2. In both rows, you say "dc in each space", when there are not actually any spaces yet, just a row of dc stitches. Do you mean to dc between the dc stitches in the previous row, or into the dc's?

    1. Hi there, thanks for your question! So sorry if I was a bit unclear, you're absolutely right, I mean to work a dc in between each dc from the previous row. Please let me know if you have any other questions, I would love to see your finished shawl too!

Oh and I added that detail to the pattern so it may be more understandable to others as well. Thanks again for pointing this out, I appreciate it!

    2. Jennifer, thanks so much for the clarification, and for adding it to your instructions. I have such admiration for people like you who take the time to share your talent with all of us here on the big ole internet! Thanks again.

  9. Crocheting in the spaces makes this the perfect pattern for a dark shade of chunky yarn. I added a couple of large buttons, using the stitches as buttons holes.

  10. thank you for this beautiful pattern – I will be making it for my mother's Christmas gift. She is in a nursing home – this will be the perfect little wrap for her. Now cross your fingers that I get it done in time!

  12. This is a beautiful quick pattern. I am attempting to make a "L" poncho for my granddaughter. Hopefully this will work into a nice project. I am a newbie 🙂

  13. Hello, Thank you, Jennifer, this is a wonderful project for newbies to crochet. I was wondering, can this pattern work for Worsted weight (4) yarn? I want to start a prayer shawl group at my church. I have a stash of yarn to donate to the help the group get started.

  14. Hi. If I wanted to make the shawl wider than 34 chains, is there a multiple number of chains I should do?

  15. Beautiful design! I have a friend who wants this wrap BUT wants it to be crochet lengthwise instead. Using wolltraub Moon Glow and she wants it to gradient from neck down. Not end to end. About 60" long. Any suggestions?
