Free Knitting Pattern...Holiday Rosette Brooch!

If you want to jazz up a coat or blazer this season, here's a fast little pattern you can work up with some leftover scraps from your yarn basket.  I love putting these on kid's hats, but here is a way to incorporate them into your wardrobe too!

Note: 2 brooches are shown in the picture and pinned side by side.

  • US 10.5 needles are used for the rosettes shown, but with this pattern it's really fun to experiment with different yarn weights and needle sizes.
  • Yarn scraps (a few yards is all you'll need)
  • Pin backing (I use safety pins so that I can remove them later and sew them to something else if I like. If you want a more permanent pin backing, you can find pin backings in the jewelry aisle of the craft store and stitch them on)
  • Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends and sewing them together)

CO 5 sts.
Row 1: KFB each st (10 sts)
Row 2: Purl
Row 3: KFB each st (20 sts)
Row 4: Purl
Row 5: KFB each st (40 sts)
BO and weave in ends. Coil to form a rosette. Stitch together to hold in place and attach pin backing to back of rosette.

(Green yarn is Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick in Lemongrass, and red yarn is Lion Brand Vanna's Choice in Brick).
