CAL: The Double Crochet Section

Good morning and happy Friday to you lovelies!  It’s CAL time…yay!  Today we’ll be working on the double crochet portion of our pretty cowls.

I have to start off by saying that I got a great comment last week from a lovely reader because she noticed that mine looked kind of wide…yikes!  I went back and yes, it was super wide!  Important crochet (or knitting or any crafty endeavor), if it looks odd or “off” it most likely is!  To make a long story short, I ended up frogging what I had so far and started over…much better!  The cowl in progress you see in these pictures is the new and improved (correct) version.

So, last week we worked on the beginning chain and single crochet section, and today we’ll do the double crochet portion.

If you’re new to the double crochet stitch, here’s an easy to follow photo tutorial to help you out:

How to Double Crochet

Let’s go!  In the picture below, we’ve come to the final row of our single crochet section, so at the end of the row,

Chain two,

and turn.

Work one double crochet into the first stitch,

and in each stitch across the row.

At the end of the row, chain two,

turn,

and work a double crochet into the first stitch, and in each stitch across the row.  Keep repeating this same row for six inches and the double crochet section will be complete and ready for the treble section next week.  Easy and fun!

Be sure to share photos , progress, and ideas:

Happy crocheting and have a lovely weekend!
