Treble Crochet Stitch, Photo + Video Tutorial

Treble Crochet Stitch

Let’s crochet the treble crochet stitch! I have to admit that when I was all set to learn how to work the treble crochet stitch I was a little intimidated.  I thought it would be more complicated.  Not the case though, it is kind of like the double crochet stitch but just a little more. You’ll sometimes see it called “triple crochet” and in patterns it is abbreviated “tr.”

Let’s zoom in to our swatch and work a treble crochet stitch together…

Begin by wrapping the yarn around the hook twice as shown below.  This is also called “yarn around hook” or yarn over”

Insert the hook into the stitch (be sure to go into both loops of the stitch),

Wrap the yarn around hook again (just once this time),

and then bring up a loop.

And draw it through the first two loops on your hook.  After you do that, it should look like the photo below.

Wrap yarn around the hook again,

After that, bring it through the first two loops on your hook.  It should now look like the photo below with two loops left:

Then wrap yarn around hook one last time. Draw it through the remaining two loops left on your hook,

Lastly you are finished! The stitch will then look like this…all finished!

To perfect your stitches, make them again and again, over and over! This helps with accuracy and getting good tension on your hook too!  Try making a small swatch of the stitches like I did to practice the treble crochet. If you work on the technique and quality of the stitches, the speed in which you make them will come naturally the longer you practice making them. Happy crocheting!
