Free Knitting Pattern…Arm Knit Tassel Scarf!

The Arm Knit Tassel Scarf is a modern and pretty project that is super fast to make.  If you are new to arm knitting, this is a great beginning project, with the added extra of fun tassels!  Be sure to scroll down to watch the two videos below if you have never arm knit before.

Materials:

  • 2 Skeins Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick (“Denim” colorway shown (I used about 1/2 of each skein)
  • Scissors
  • Your arms!

Note:  You can use any bulky/super bulky yarns for this project, if you are unsure about your yarn and/or the colors you have chosen, you can do a test swatch to see how everything will come together.

Sizing:

  • Approximately 4 inches wide (unstretched)
  • Approximately 12 inches wide (stretched open)
  • 60 inches long (without tassels)
  • 72 inches long (with a six inch tassel at either end)

Instructions for Scarf:

Cast on 8 stitches.

Row 1: Knit all stitches.

Repeat row 1 for a total of 20 rows.

Bind off all stitches.

Instructions for Tassels:

  • Determine how long you’d like your tassels to be (tassels shown are each 6 inches tall)
  • Cut two strands of yarn roughly 16 inches long
  • Using card stock or other sturdy material and holding two strands of matching yarn, wrap the yarn 13 times around.
  • Slip one of the strands of yarn in between the card stock and yarn and tie the top securely with a knot.
  • Using the other strand, tie it around the tassel about an inch or so from the top as shown above.
  • Trim the bottom strands across for a uniform finish.
  • Repeat for the other tassel

Finishing & Assembly:

Before weaving in the ends of the scarf, gently tug to draw in the edges for a rounded scarf edge.  Note: If you already knotted your piece, simply weave in the strand along the bottom and pull tight…it will draw up the bottom the same way.  Tie a tassel to each end and weave in any ends that remain.

  1. Hi, I like the scarf and the video goes slow enough to help a person follow the steps. Id like to make this as a gift..but I have a question. It shows you can wear it as a cowl or a traditional scarf–how? Is it sewn up to make a cowl or can you put it on somehow as a traditional scarf and make it lay as a cowl? Is it flexible to do both or is it an either or? Please help thanks
