The Vanilla Chai Shawl is soft, lofty, light as air and will keep you cozy without added weight. Crocheted in a simple mesh stitch with a large hook, you have a fabulous and elegant shawl worked up in no time!

Materials Needed:
- 1.25 Skeins Homespun Thick & Quick (Pearl Colorway shown)
- P (10 mm) Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle
Sizing As Shown:
- 14 Inches Wide
- 60 Inches Long
Note: If making this shawl for charity, many places will require that the shawl be no longer than 48 inches so is does not get wrapped up in wheelchair wheels. As a side note, they will also recommend soft and washable yarn too.
Instructions:
Chain 31 (Note: if you'd like to change the width, just chain an odd number of chains.
Row 1: Work a dc in the 5th ch from the hook. *ch 1, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in the next ch. Rpt from * to the end of the row.
Row 2: Ch 4 and turn. Work a dc in the first space (ch 1 space from previous row), then ch 1. *(dc, ch 1) in each space (ch 1 space from previous row). To finish the row, work a dc in the turning chain space.
Repeat row 2 until shawl is desired length. Shawl as shown is 60 inches long. See sizing section above for more information about charity sizing.
Finishing:
Weave in all ends with a tapestry needle and you're finished!

DeleteVery pretty. Planning to make it for church; it's always cold in there. My size P hook says 11.5 mm. My 10 mm hook says size N. Which would you suggest?

ReplyDeleteHand wash in Woolite. Press out water by rolling in a couple of soft towels. Shape and lay flat to dry.
DeleteIf you need a gift on short notice, start with a chain 9, make it long & skinny, & call it a fashion scarf! Only took a couple hours.

ReplyDeleteJust finished! It turned out great. Took me a little longer to finish it than anticipated, but I've got several projects going simultaniously. This one was easy to pick up and work a few rows and then set aside. No worries about inturruptions or counting. Fun, easy, and lovely project. Thank you!
