By Jennifer Dickerson
Sizing:
- Blanket/Mat shown is 30 inches wide and 30 inches tall. However, if different dimensions are desired, see the instructions section.
Materials:
- 2 skeins Lion Brand Hometown USA in Honolulu Pink
- 2 skeins Lion Brand Hometown USA in Monterey Lime
- 2 skeins Lion Brand Hometown USA in Minneapolis Purple
- N (9.0 mm) Crochet Hook
- Tapestry/Yarn Needle
Note: If you'd like to substitute yarn, any 6 skeins of super bulky yarn will do, check for yarn that recommends an "N" hook.
Instructions for Blanket/Play Mat:
Note: for a different width, make the starting chain in a multiple of 6+4). Three rows of each color are worked, then repeated.
Ch 76
Row 1: In the 6th ch from the hook, work (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) all in the same chain. *Skip 5 chains, then in the next ch, work (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc). Repeat from * to last 4 ch. Skip 3 ch, and in the last ch, work a dc.
Row 2: Ch 3 and turn. *Work (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) into the center of each fan from the previous row all the way across (see photo below). Work a dc in the turning chain space.
Repeat row 2 until blanket/play mat is desired length. Blanket shown has three rows of one color, then switches to the next color and repeats. However, you can switch colors whenever you'd like.

Finding your blog was the motivation I needed to start crocheting again. Your photos and videos are beautifully done, and your directions are so easy to follow. I would love to see some lacy and airy items for summer. I've also attached a youtube video featuring a Katniss cowl. I would love to see you give a tutorial on a similar cowl. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEvLAlVi7U4
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie for such a kind comment!
DeleteHi! I learned at age 58 how to crochet from your great patterns and videos!
ReplyDeleteThat is so awesome, happy crocheting to you! :)
DeleteI'm new to crocheting and love your video and easy to follow instructions! I was wondering if there was a way to make the last row more straight like the first row to finish it off instead of having the 3 chain kind of bump out and make the fan shape. Or if it was even possible. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!
ReplyDeleteHi there! Thanks for your question! Sometimes (depending on the yarn you're using, etc) you could work a row of single crochet...that might help straighten out the edge a bit.
DeleteI am wondering the same thing as the previous poster about the finished edge. Could you also post a picture of the full finished blanket.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your question! I replied above. :)
DeleteWhere?
DeleteI worked slip stitches across the chain 3 bump outs and single crochets on the tops of the double crochets.Straightened the last scalloped row out nicely. Can add a border or be done!
DeleteHi , can you use worsted weight yarn? I have lots of this weight and would like too try making this blanket, thanks,
ReplyDeleteYes you can! You'll have to make it wider though to accommodate the thinner yarn.
DeleteCan this blanket be made with a smaller needle and lighter weight of yarn?
ReplyDeleteHello :) Super excited that I found you!!! You've encouraged and inspired me to start this project.
ReplyDeleteWhat weight is the yarn you used?
Gloria :)
