Free Crochet Pattern...Sorbetto Baby Blanket & Play Mat!

The Sorbetto Blanket and Play Mat is lofty, squishy, and lots of fun!  This blanket is designed to grow with baby, serving as a cozy covering in the beginning, then can later be used as a fluffy play mat as baby gets more mobile.  From breezy stroller rides to playtime, this quick to crochet blanket/mat makes the perfect baby shower gift too!

The Sorbetto Blanket & Play Mat

Sizing:

• Blanket/Mat shown is 30 inches wide and 30 inches tall.  However, if different dimensions are desired, see the instructions section.

Materials:

• 2 skeins Lion Brand Hometown USA in Honolulu Pink
• 2 skeins Lion Brand Hometown USA in Monterey Lime
• 2 skeins Lion Brand Hometown USA in Minneapolis Purple
• N (9.0 mm) Crochet Hook
• Tapestry/Yarn Needle

Note: If you'd like to substitute yarn, any 6 skeins of super bulky yarn will do, check for yarn that recommends an "N" hook.

Instructions for Blanket/Play Mat:

Note: for a different width, make the starting chain in a multiple of 6+4).  Three rows of each color are worked, then repeated.

Ch 76

Row 1: In the 6th ch from the hook, work (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) all in the same chain.  *Skip 5 chains, then in the next ch, work (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc).  Repeat from * to last 4 ch.  Skip 3 ch, and in the last ch, work a dc.

Row 2: Ch 3 and turn.  *Work (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) into the center of each fan from the previous row all the way across (see photo below).  Work a dc in the turning chain space.

Repeat row 2 until blanket/play mat is desired length.  Blanket shown has three rows of one color, then switches to the next color and repeats.  However, you can switch colors whenever you'd like.

Ch 12
In the 4th ch from the hook, work 2 dc, then work 3 dc in each chain all the way across to the end.  Rose will curl naturally.  Coil into desired shape, then seam together using remaining tails.  Keep tails attached for sewing to the blanket later.

Instructions for Leaf:

Chain 4 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring.
Round 1:  In the center of the ring, work 6 dc, 4 sc, 1 tr, 4 sc.  Join with a slip stitch to close leaf and fasten off.  Keep tails intact for seaming later.

Finishing & Assembly:

Sew leaf and rose to blanket using yarn tails.  Blanket shown has rose and leaf sewn to the bottom left corner.  Weave in any ends that remain.
