How To Make The Easiest Cowl Ever!

I've been wearing these a lot this summer and they are so super easy to make!  I made my first one while making T-Shirt Yarn and started wearing it right then and there.  These cowls are so easy this is one of those "non-tutorial" tutorials.  They are perfect for warm weather because they are made of cool and comfy jersey fabric...best of all they are no sew and can be made in seconds!

Let's get started...to begin you'll need a pair of (good fabric cutting) scissors and a t-shirt:

Make sure your shirt has no side seams.  The shirt I used for this tutorial was a men's XL size and gave a circumference of 48 inches and 16 inches width.  Experiment with different sizes of shirts to see what you like best.

Next, lay your shirt out flat,

And cut as shown below, the first cut just below the underarms and the second cut right above the seam:

That's it!  You'll be left with a tube,

Now pull the tube apart and give it a nice firm tug:

Because it is jersey knit material, it will naturally curl up on the sides, which is what we want...no raw edges showing anymore!

Now you can wear your cowl...try printed and striped shirts too for a variety of looks.

Yarny Kids Project...Bendy Straw Jewelry!

This fabulous jewelry made from yarn and drinking straws is a fun and mess free way for kids to make beautiful treasures to wear or give as gifts...I love wearing mine!

  • Yarn in different lengths for bracelets and necklaces
  • Plastic drinking straws
  • Scissors (younger kids will need help cutting)

To begin, snip your "beads" from the drinking straws.  You can make them all the same length or vary the sizes...the more colors the better!

Now, cut a length of yarn.  Make it a little longer than needed to compensate for tying it together...

Now you can string your beads onto the yarn.  Keep going until it is as long as you want it to be.  Try making patterns with the colors too!  If your yarn is splitting apart, wrap a little piece of tape to form a point.

Before you tie it together, be sure to put it around the neck or wrist to make sure it is the right size.

Now tie it together and snip off the excess yarn.  Lovely!

Bendy straw jewelry makes great gifts for parents, teachers and grandparents, and even very little kids get excited when they can do it all by themselves!  The wide hole of the straw beads make it a bit easier too.
