How to Crochet fpdc + bpdc Decreases


Post stitches are fun stitches that add lots of texture to your project.  When you need to decrease, here are photo and video tutorials for both the front post double crochet (fpdc) decrease and the back post double crochet (bpdc) decrease.

First up is the front post double crochet (fpdc) decrease video tutorial:

Then the photo tutorial that will walk you through step by step (written instructions below photo):



Step 1: Wrap yarn around hook.
Step 2: Insert hook under the post from the previous row.
Step 3: Wrap yarn around hook and bring it back through (3 loops on the hook).
Step 4: Wrap yarn around hook and bring it through the first two loops (two loops on the hook).
Step 5: Wrap yarn around hook. 
Step 6: In the next stitch, insert hook under post from the previous row.
Step 7: Wrap yarn around hook and bring the loop through (4 loops on the hook).
Step 8: Wrap yarn around hook and bring it through the first two loops (3 loops on the hook)
Step 9: Wrap yarn around hook and bring it through all three loops on the hook.

Step 2: Insert hook from back then around the post and then back down again.
Step 3: Wrap yarn around hook and bring it back through (3 loops on the hook).

Step 6: In the next stitch insert hook from back then around the post and then back down again (4 loops on the hook).
Step 7: Wrap yarn around hook and bring it through the first two loops (3 loops on the hook)
Step 8: Wrap yarn around hook and bring it through all three loops on the hook.
