Free Crochet Pattern...The Leafy Lariat!

The Leafy Lariat is a beautiful and unique statement necklace for fall. It works up in no time and is a great way to use up some yarn leftovers too. Make one or several for a layered effect of cascading autumn leaves. Be sure to scroll down for the image on how to style your lariat!

Materials:

6.0 mm J crochet hook
Worsted weight yarn of your choice (I used Lion Brand’s Heartland in “Yosemite” and “Joshua Tree” and Lion Brand’s Vanna’s Choice in “Taupe”)
Tapestry Needle
Scissors

Sizing:

Each leaf is approximately 1 inch wide
Strands are 40 inches long

Instructions for each strand (make one or more, 3 shown in photos):

Note: Each strand it worked as one complete piece. Leaf is worked in the round, then a chain extends from base of the leaf. Second leaf is crocheted to the other in in one continuous piece.

Ch 4, then join in the ch furthest from the hook to create a ring.

Round 1: In the center of the ring work (2 dc, 5 sc, 1 tr, 5 sc, 2 dc). Join with a sl st to close the round, then ch 110. (You can add more or less at this point to change length of the strands). In the 4th ch from the hook, work a sl st to create a ring. Work a sl st into the center of the ring, then work a sl st on the other side of the chain “stem.” Next, work (2 dc, 5 sc, 1 tr, 5 sc, 2 dc). Join to close round with a sl st.

Repeat for each strand (you can make one or more…I made three of them).

Finishing: Using the tail from the last leaf crocheted and the tapestry needle, you may need to run a stitch or two through both the stem and leaf to flatten it out. Weave in any ends that remain and you’re finished. Check out how to style your lariat below!
