Snow Berries Throw

Materials:
- 9.0 mm crochet hook
- 9 balls of Bernat Blanket in "Cranberry" "Vintage White" and "Dark Gray" (150g size)
- Tapestry Needle
- Scissors
Sizing:
- 60 inches by 60 inches square
Abbreviations and Tutorial Links:
Instructions:
Ch 4 and join with a slip stitch to form a ring.
Round 1: Chain 5, then work 3 dc into the center of the ring, then ch 2. Work the (3 dc, ch 2) two more times into the center of the ring. Work 2 more dc into the center of the ring, and join with a sl st to close.
Round 2: In any corner, tie on a new color then ch 5. Work two dc into the center of the ring. Work a dc in each of the next three stitches. To work the corner, work two dc, ch two, then two more dc in the ch 2 space from the previous round. Work the next side the same way, working a dc in the next three stitches, then work the next corner by working 2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc all in the same space. Keep working in this manner all the way around the square. At the corner where the round began, work one more dc in the corner space, Join with a sl st to close round.
Round 3: In any corner, tie on a new color then ch 5. Work 2 dc in the same space. Work a dc in each stitch across the top (there will be seven this time), Work the corner the same way as the previous round (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) Keep going in this manner all the way around, working the corners and the sides as before. When reaching the last corner, work one more dc, and join with a slip stitch to close.
Repeat round 3 until square measures about 60 inches across (or desired dimensions). Each side will grow in stitch count as square get larger, but corners are always worked the same way.
Finishing & Assembly:
Weave in any ends that remain and you're finished!

ReplyDeleteI found that it is 3 of each color. I am about 1/2 way thru and still have more than a skein of each color left. So sounds about right to me.

Kathy Hart to answer you question, I believe the pattern requires 3x300grm of each colour for a 60x60 blanket. The link provided above takes you to some good priced Bernet Blanket yarn. DeleteHi! I’m trying to figure out exactly how much Bernat Blanket yarn to purchase. Is it 9 skeins if 150 gm. Yarn per color (total of 27 skeins) for a 60 x. 60 inch square Afghan?

ReplyDeleteI made throw pillows to go with the blankets for Christmas gifts this year (2017). I just did one band of each color (the first 3 bands of the blanket) twice and stitched them back to back with the trim pattern I used for the blanket. I bought premade pillow forms in the craft department to put inside and they turned out great.

I could use some advice; I've been working on two of these in bright colors for christmas gifts, and after working up 3 skeins on each I've discovered that the shape is all wonky... it seems that the side coming from the beginning corner is getting continually longer than the other three sides. I believe I'm following the pattern as shown in the video, any widsom as to what might be happening? Thank you!

hi I am new to this and newly back to crocheting, I never learned to follow a written pattern so I watched the video for the berries throw, and made 1, now I'm reading the pattern making a 2nd throw and the written pattern seems incomplete to the video and very different from the pictures makes learning difficult any ideas or help how to get around this I can't get to town for classes and none of my friends crochet, anks

ReplyDeleteI have watched the video and read the pattern however being a newbie I do have a couple of questions please. When you'er coming up on a corner with the two dc and chain two and then two dc, are we suppose to put a dc in the two dc and then chain two and then dc and start with the single dc across? And by how much does each square increase each time? For instance first there was 4 dc and then 7, so does it increase by 3 each row or more?
I want to make this blanket but don't have a 9mm I do have a 10mm will it make a difference
