Free Crochet Pattern…Color Pop Tote!

The Color Pop Tote is a fun and colorful tote that is a breeze to stitch up.  Popular cake yarn gives the bag a super cute color block effect, but you can easily use any yarn you like too.

Instructions:

Ch 70 (you can adjust the chains to make it narrower or wider if you like, just make sure it is an even number)

Round 1: ch 2, Work a hdc in the first ch and in each ch around.

Round 2: ch 2 then work a hdc in each st. Join with a sl st to close the round.

Repeat round 2 for three inches or until desired height.

Round 3: Ch 4 (counts as a dc, ch 1). Skip that very first stitch, then work a (dc, ch 1). *Skip the next st and in the next st work a (dc, ch 1). Repeat from * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to close the round.

Round 4: Ch 4 (counts as a dc, ch 1). Work a (dc, ch 1) in the first st and in each st around. Join with a sl st to close the round. Repeat round 4/mesh portion for eight inches or until desired height.

Round 5: ch 2, *Work a hdc in the first ch 1 space, then work a hdc into the next st. Repeat from * to the end of the round. Join with a sl st to close the round.

Round 6: ch 2 then work a hdc in each st. Join with a sl st to close the round.

Repeat round 6 for three inches or until desired height, do not fasten off yarn yet and move onto the handle/strap portion below.

To work the handle, work a hdc in each of the next 8 stitches. Ch 1 and turn. Work a hdc in each stitch across. Repeat this row until handle/strap is as long as you’d like it to be. (I made mine extra long (40 inches) to make mine a “crossbody” style, but you can make it shorter for a shoulder bag style if you want.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail. With a tapestry needle, sew handle to opposite top side of bag with the whip stitch. Turn bag inside out and seam the bottom of the bag closed with a whip stitch. Turn bag right side out and weave in any ends that remain.

  1. I love the color pop tote, but I don't see a button to click on for Ravelry. I would love to have it in my "favorites" Thank you!!!!

  2. Absolutely love this tote!
Was so easy and so fun to make.
I love following you and your patterns.
    Thank you!
It makes me happy to create things that are not complicated and stressful.
I also made your happy go lucky Shawlette and your summer bookmarks (a few years ago for each one in my bible study group), to mention a few.
You explain how to do things so simply. You make crochet absolutely enjoyable!
    Thank you again!
    Keep your patterns coming!
    All blessings to you!
