Materials:

  • 156 yards of super bulky yarn (6 on the yarn weight scale) I used 3 balls of Chill by Sugar Bush Yarns in “Lazuli”
  • 10.0 mm crochet hook
  • Large Tapestry Needle 
  • Scissors

One Hour Crochet Cowl

Sizing:

  • 14 Inches Tall
  • 32 Inch Circumference

Instructions:

  • (Multiple of 3+4)
  • Ch 60, join with a sl st in the furthest ch from the hook.
  • Round 1: Ch 4 (counts as a dc and a ch 1), work a dc in the first ch.  *Skip 2 ch and in the next ch, (dc, ch 1, dc).  Repeat from * to the end of the round.  Join with a sl st in the starting chain (from beginning of round) in the third ch up to close the round.
  • Round 2: Ch 4 (counts as a dc and a ch 1), work a dc in the first V of the round (this on is a little different because it is made with a ch 4 + 1 dc).  *Work a (dc, ch 1, dc) in each ch 1 space from the previous round (center of each v).  Repeat from * to the end of the round.  Join with a sl st in the starting chain (from beginning of round) in the third ch up to close the round.
  • Repeat round 2 until piece measures about 14 inches tall from starting chain or desired height.
  • Fasten off and weave in and ends that remain.

  2. Thank you for the wonderful free cowl pattern. I used a little larger hook that I received as a Christmas gift, so the cowl turned out longer. But I think that it still turned out beautiful. Really easy pattern for someone getting back into crocheting after a couple of years. Thank you again.

  3. Ok beginner here. I am making a lavender version in wool ease (looking really good). I want to add a crochet border on top and bottom to add gray to match a hat i am making for my mother. I am wondering what you think – I have gray wool ease. Maybe just switch out and add a row on each end in the same stitch?
