In case you missed it:

Materials:
  • K (6.5 mm) crochet hook
  • 1/2 Ball of Dreamy yarn by Red Heart (one ball is 466 yards, I used the "Gray" colorway)
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Scissors

Sizing:
  • 20 inch circumference (has some give and stretch to it too)
  • 11 inches tall
  • Pom pom is about 3 inches across

Abbreviations and Tutorial Links:

Instructions:

Ch 34 (if you want to make the circumference narrower or wider, simply add or subtract chains as needed).

Row 1: work a dc in the 4th ch from the hook, then a dc in each ch across.

Row 2: Ch 3 and turn.  Work a bpdc in the first st and in each st across.  Work a dc in the topmost chain of the turning chain.

Row 3: Ch 3 and turn.  Work a dc in the first st and in each st across.  Work a dc in the topmost chain of the turning chain.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 18 inches from beginning.

Finishing:

Weave in all ends.  With a matching piece of yarn seam starting edge to ending edge together to create a tube.  With matching piece of yarn work a loose running stitch around top of tube.  Pull tight to create crown and knot tightly.

To make a pom pom, cut a piece of yarn approximately 12 inches long.  Wrap yarn around 4 fingers about 150 times and slide yarn bundle carefully off of your fingers.  Tie yarn around bundle tightly.  Note: to prevent pom from coming apart later, try running a stripe of how glue along yarn before tying it around the bundle, then tie tightly.  Cut all loops and trim yarn ends of pom pom until it looks nice and even. Tie to top of hat and weave in ends.

  1. I want to use more of my Red Heart Supersave yarn in your projects, but they recommend an I hook. Do i need to add anything for going a hook size down?

  2. Such a nice hat, the yarn does look "Dreamy"!

  3. This is a quick and easy project, and fun to do. The written instructions, though, don't seem to line up with the video, so someone attempting to crochet this hat will want to check with the video when they are turning corners.
