Watercress Lace Button Cowl, Free Crochet Pattern + Video

The Watercress Lace Button Cowl is gorgeous crochet light weight lacy neck wrap that celebrates springtime. It can be worn in many different ways, thanks to the easily adjustable buttons. Worked flat in an easy lace repeat, this project is great for beginners too!

Materials:

  • G (4.0 mm) crochet hook 
  • 200-225 yards of your favorite sock yarn (I used Dream In Color Smooshy in “Spring Tickle”)
  • 1 Button (about 1 inch wide)
  • Tapestry Needle 
  • Scissors

  • 8 inches wide
  • 23 inches long

Instructions:

Button cowl is worked flat. Button is sewed on last and the lacy spaces serve as adjustable button holes. 

Ch 33

Row 1: In the 6th ch from the hook, (dc, ch 1) three times, then 1 dc in the same ch. *skip 3 ch, (dc, ch 1) 3 times in the next ch, 1 dc in the same ch, repeat from * across to last 3 ch, skip 2 ch, 1 dc in last ch.

Row 2: Ch 3 and turn. Skip (dc, ch 1, dc), then *(dc, ch 1) three times in next ch space, skip (dc, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1, dc) repeat from * to center of last group, skip (dc, ch 1, dc), dc in the turning ch space.

Repeat row 2 until piece measures approximately 23 inches long or desired length.

Finishing:

With a matching piece of yarn and a yarn needle, sew button to bottom left corner (starting edge) of piece. Weave in any ends that remain. Block lightly if desired.

  1. Lovely to have some '1 ball' projects. I have often overbought on yarn due to inexperience and didn't always know how to use it up but a cowl is a great idea and makes a lovely gift too.
