Stripy Baby Bear Hat, Free Crochet Pattern + Video


The Stripy Baby Bear Hat is an adorable, very easy to stitch up hat that makes a great gift for a little one!  Make set or gift it along with a matching blanket or tiny sweater.  This is also a fabulous pattern for a charity project as well!

Materials:

  • K (6.5 mm) crochet hook 
  • Dreamy by Red Heart ( I used "Dark Taupe" and "Gray" for one of the hats and "Gray" and "Aqua" for the other hat.  Note: If you need to substitute yarn, use a 5/bulky on the yarn weight scale.
  • Tapestry Needle 
  • Scissors 
  • Tape measure or ruler





Sizing:
  • 6 inches tall
  • 12.5 inches circumference 
  • Each ear is 1.5 inches tall

Instructions for main part of hat:

Note: I worked 2 rounds of each color, but feel free to work your colors how you like best!

Chain 4, Join in the furthest ch with a sl st to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 3, then work 11 dc into the center of the ring, join in the top chain at beginning of round with a slip stitch to close round.

Round 2: Ch 3, *1 dc in the first stitch, 2 dc in the next stitch, rpt from * to end of round. Join in the top chain at beginning of round with a slip stitch to close round.

Round 3: Repeat round 2.

Round 4: Ch 3. Work a dc in each stitch around. Join in the top chain at beginning of round with a slip stitch to close round.

Repeat round 4 until hat measures 6 inches from beginning. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Bottom edge:  Ch 1, and work a sc in each stitch around. Join to close round with a slip stitch.  Fasten off. 

Instructions for ears (make 2):

Chain 4, Join in the furthest ch with a sl st to form a ring.

Row 1: Ch 3, then work 10 dc into the center of the ring, then push them together a bit to create a half moon ear shape.

Row 2: Ch 1 and turn.  Work a sc in each st, then fasten off.

Using one of the tails, seam ear to top of hat as shown.  Repeat for other ear.  Weave in any ends that remain.
