Book Lovers Crochet Bookmark

The Book Lovers Crochet Bookmark is a lovely little project that you can stitch up in no time!  Simple crochet stitches resemble columns of hearts and the bottom is finished off with some fabulous beaded fringe for some added sparkle.  Perfect to accompany your favorite thing to read or gift along with a book too!

Book Lovers Crochet Bookmark

Materials:

  • 4.0 mm “G” crochet hook 
  • Whims Merino Superwash DK in the “red” colorway, note: I used a small amount from the hank, only about a quarter of the total yardage.
  • Tapestry Needle 
  • Scissors 
  • Tape Measure
  • Optional: Beads and bead needle

Sizing:

  • 8 inches tall
  • 2.5 inches wide
  • Fringe adds another 2-2.5 inches to length of total
Book Lovers Crochet Bookmark

Instructions:

  • Ch 11 (to change the width, use a multiple of 4+3)
  • Row 1: In the 5th ch from the hook work (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc). *Skip 3 chains and in the chain after that, work (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc), repeat from * across until 2 chains remain. Skip a ch, then in the last ch, work 1 dc.
  • Row 2: Ch 3 and turn. Work (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in each ch 1 space from the previous row (center of each fan). Work a dc into the turning chain space.
  • Repeat row 2 until bookmark is about 8 inches tall.  Weave in any ends.

Add fringe along bottom edge and add beads to ends of fringe strands if needed.

  1. I made it! So cool. Thank you! As a novice, I'm not sure how to decrease the width of this pattern. Any ideas?

  2. I absolutely adore this bookmark!! I read so much that it's almost criminal and I love, love, love bookmarks. I make them out of ribbon with double-sided bias tape between them and it stiffens them very nicely. Now I can use crochet as well!!
