Crochet Mask Helpers Two Ways, Free Crochet Pattern + Video

Mask Helpers are a great way to keep elastic off of the ears to reduce soreness after wearing face masks for a long period of time.  Easy to stitch crochet strips have a button on either side to hook the elastic mask loops on.  This pattern and video has two versions of the helpers...a vertically stitched "stretchy" version and a horizontally stitched "sturdy" version.  A great project to make for personal use, but also consider donating them as well!

Sizing:
  • 5 inches long
  • 1-1.5 inches inches wide

Instructions for "stretchy" (vertically stitched) mask helper:

Row 1: Work a sc in the 2nd ch from the hook.  Work a sc in each ch across.

Row 2: Ch 1 and turn.  Work a sc in each st across.

Repeat row 2 for approximately 5 inches or desired length.

Instructions for "sturdy" (horizontally stitched) mask helper:

Chain 18

  2. Can I give a small pointer, instead of cutting the tails off the ear savers, dont weave them. Keep them attached n use that yarn to put on your buttons n then cut the rest.

  8. Love them! Just one question: what size buttons did you use? I did not see where it mentions size or am I missing it? Thank you for sharing your patterns & your talent - much appreciated. These are great! Love that there is two choices or able to make two different versions - versatility is great.

  14. For the long sturdier one, it says ch1 turn, ch 1 turn. I'm not seeing that in the video. Is that just a typo in the written pattern? Just want to make sure I'm not skipping a ste . THANK YOU for the patter .
