Minty Meadows Crochet Fringe Cowl, Free Pattern + Video

The Minty Meadows Crochet Fringe Cowl is a beautiful accessory for any time of year.  Lovely lace fans are easy to stitch up thanks to simple, basic stitches.  The cowl is finished off with long, fabulous fringe, giving it a modern look…fun to make and fun to wear!

Materials:

• 5.0 mm H crochet hook 
• Approximately 604 yards of any DK weight yarn (I used Audune Wools DK from KnitCrate in “Leaf Eater”) If you need to substitute yarn, look for a DK weight yarn.
• Tapestry needle 
• Scissors 
• Tape measure

Finished Sizing:

• 34.5 inch circumference 
• 12 inches tall
• Fringe is about 11 inches long

Instructions:

• (Multiple of 10+2)
• Chain 62.
• Row 1: Sc in the second ch from the hook. *Skip 4 ch, work 9 tr in the next ch, skip 4 ch, 1 sc, rpt from * across.
•  
• Row 2: Ch 4 and turn. Work a tr in the first sc, *ch 3, work a sc in the center tr of the 9 tr fan, ch 3, work 2 tr in sc, rpt from * across.
• Row 3: Ch 1 and turn. Work 1 sc in the sp between 2 tr, * skip 3 ch, 9 tr in sc, skip 3 ch, 1 sc in space between 2 tr, repeat from * across.
• Repeat rows 2 and 3 until cowl measures approximately 34.5 inches. Fasten off and weave in any ends that remain.

Finishing & Assembly:

• Seam edges using the whip stitch.  Lace can be a little tricky to seam because of the decorative holes.  Check out the video where I walk through the seaming step by step.
• Weave in all ends.
• To add fringe (optional), pull a length of yarn about 18 inches long.  Pull another length of yarn and fold in half.  Pull another length of yarn and fold in half.  Pull a length of yarn out again and fold in half one more time.  Cut yarn then wrap around your finger to make a large loop.  Using your crochet hook to help, send loop through any of the stitches along the bottom edge of the cowl.  Put ends through the loop and tighten carefully so you don’t distort the stitchwork.  Repeat around the entire bottom edge, spacing evenly.  I added a fringe bundle to each fan on mine, but you can make yours fuller looking by adding more if you like too.
• Trim fringe straight across.  Pick up and shake a little and trim to neaten up if needed.
