2020 Charity Challenge Reveal!

It’s here!  After a very long year, our 2020 Charity Challenge is complete…so awesome!  This year, and for the past few years, I challenged myself and the Fiber Flux community to choose a cause and/or organization and make some items to donate.  I chose to make scarves for a local homeless shelter this year.

Check out my reveal video here!

In case you missed this project, you can read all about it here!

I gathered some things I had in my finished items pile, plus made some new things throughout the year.  My goal this year was 12 items, one per month of 2020.  At the time I filmed the video, I was up to 14 items.  In addition to the original scarf idea, I decided to add cowls, mittens, and hats, as they are also much needed items.  I went through the finished items pile once again and am now up to 38 donation items!!  I’m so happy about this!

I like to add a little tag to my donations when I send them off too…check out my video to show you how to tag your own too!

Before donating, be sure to contact the organization first to see:

  • What do they need?
  • Any special size requirements?
  • Do they need to be machine wash only?
  • Drop off procedures?
  • Anything else that might be helpful to know?

Also, many organizations need things all year long, so consider donating items throughout the year as well.

  1. What a great idea. My project is a crocheting doll clothes for the dolls I donate each year. This year the need was far greater than we could meet which was hard to read about in the papers. So many groups weren't able to donate toys for the annual drives. It was good to know that our extra COVID time at home crocheting was put to good use.

  2. I donate hats, scarves, and wristers each November to Our Calling in Dallas TX for the homeless. I had a total of 40 items in 2020. Then, I work on hats and socks for preemie babies to be delivered each June. It gives me pleasure, keeps me busy, and gives me purpose now that I'm retired.
