Welcome to the 2020 Fiber Flux Holiday Crochet Along…hooray! Today is week 3 of the CAL and we’re working on the fabulous Holly Jolly Pocket Shawl! This is a very easy and fabulously cozy wearable that is festive for the holiday season and beyond!
Here’s what we’ll be doing today:
- Weaving in all of the ends
- Seaming up the pockets
- Adding tassels to the corners of the shawl

Let’s get started shall we? For today’s part of the CAL, you’ll need some scrap yarn from your shawl, your tassel yarn, scissors, and a tapestry needle.
- Begin by weaving in ends…try going in one direction with the tail, then in the other direction to help “lock” it into place. Also be sure to stay in the same color area with your tail if you’re using multiple colors of yarn.
- To make the pockets, flip up each side of the shawl to make them as deep as you need them to be. I made each pocket 12 blocks tall. I also used clothespins to hold everything together.
- With a matching piece of yarn, seam up the sides of the pockets using the whip stitch, starting at the top and working downward.
- Weave in ends and turn right side out.
- If you would like to add tassels, I added one to each corner of the shawl.
- Begin by cutting two pieces of matching yarm each about 18 inches long.
- Wrap yarn around all four fingers, about 40 times.
- Tie yarn through at the top of the bundle and add a secure knot.
- Tie yarn around the bundle about 1/4 of the way down.
- Trim straight across at the bottom.
- Tie to the corner of the shawl.
- Repeat for other tassels.
That’s it! Enjoy your fabulous shawl!
