Hello lovelies! I have a fun and exciting project to share with you today…our annual charity CAL Challenge!
On my own, I normally do charity projects throughout the year…hats, shawls, etc. and send them off for donation. I thought it would be fun and meaningful to share these types of projects by focusing on a particular charity or area of need AND do it as a community…so who’s with me?!

So this year I am committing to donating at least 12 shawls in 2021 (about one per month). I also plan on donating some lap blankets too. At the end of the year, I plan to donate all of them to a local nursing home where the need is high.
I want to challenge you to do a charity project too! Do you have a pile of finished pieces just waiting to go somewhere? Or perhaps you’d like to use some of your yarn stash for a great cause? I will be donating mine locally, but you can search the internet for organizations near and far that will take the shawls, hats, scarves, and blankets too…there are so many, choose one that speaks to your heart.
Also, it is a good idea to check in with the organization before you donate and ask questions like:
- Are you currently accepting donations?
- Do you accept handmade items?
- Do they need to be machine wash only?
- Do they need to be a certain size?
- Anything I cannot donate?
- Any other special requirements?

This is a wonderful charity CAL. I'm going to try my best to do 1 a month with you. There are several nursing homes in my area. I'm sure one of them I'll be able to work with. Thanks for this!
I think this is so sweet of you! I crochet blankets and mats for the animals at the local rescues all year round! I love to crochet and can't volunteer at the shelters because I am highly allergic to cats, so this is a win-win for me. A lot of those poor animals have never felt anything soft underneath their paws, and these blankets help give them a sense of comfort and peace which can help them get adopted sooner! 🙂
