Fix A Loose Pom Pom

Let’s fix a loose pom pom! As winter goes on (and on), many of us have been wearing hats for the past few months and chances are your pom pom might be flopping around a bit!  Not to worry, I have a two minute fix to get your pom pom under control again!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Your hat
  • Scissors
  • A piece of matching yarn (does not have to be an exact match, just a similar color will work)
  • A tapestry needle

How to fix a loose pom pom on your hat:

  1. Cut a matching piece of yarn as the hat/pom pom about 18 inches long and thread it on a tapestry needle.
  2. Coming up from up inside the hat stitch it tightly creating an “X” to hold the hat in place.
  3. Repeat one or twice more, creating an “X” each time.
  4. The x shaped stitches will help anchor it in place.
  5. Tie a secure knot to hold it snugly. I normally do two or more because of the amount of movement it will have being worn all of the time.
  6. Test it before cutting the yarn to be sure there is no movement.  If there is, add another “X” (or more if you think it is needed) through the hat.
  7. Snip the yarn tail inside the hat. You can also weave in the ends-it is totally up to you because it will be in the inside of the hat and not seen.
  8. Now you’re ready to wear your non-floppy pom hat!

Happy stitching lovelies!
