2021 Spring CAL Week 1: Spun Sugar Cardigan

Welcome to the 2021 Fiber Flux Spring Crochet Along…yippee! Today marks week one of the CAL and we’ll be learning about the beautiful project we’ll be making…the Spun Sugar Cardigan!  This is a gorgeous light weight sweater perfect for warmer days ahead!  The cardigan is light, lacy, and airy…and so super easy to stitch up!  We will make two lacy “panels” and cleverly seam them together to make a flowing open front wearable…so much fun!

We will be going over a few things today to begin:

  • Introduction to the project
  • Supplies
  • Sizing overview
  • Schedule of the CAL
  • Where to connect with other makers

The CAL will be divided over the next few weeks, so we’ll tackle each part bit by bit. Scroll down for the schedule with actual dates and what we’ll be doing on each day/week.

*This is a self-paced project, so definitely go at the speed you feel most comfortable. The instructional videos and posts will be up forever and you will always be able to go back and watch again and again!

Here is a quick video introduction to the CAL and more information about supplies too:

First things first…the supplies!

Materials Needed:

Can’t get this yarn?  Not quite your thing?  Here are some other lovely 3/light yarns too!  Click here to see them all!

Let’s talk about sizing a bit…the cardigan is made by crocheting two long panels, kind of like two shawls.  You can make the panels/finished sweater any length you like!  Crop, waist, hip, knee, or even down to the floor if you wish!  The one shown is knee length.  Circumference of the sweater is determined by the width of the panels-we can adjust by changing the multiples of the stitch pattern for each panel (more about that next week!)

The shawl as shown in the photos measures:

  • 22 inches across (I measured from arm opening to arm hole, straight across)
  • 32 tall (I measured from top of shoulder to bottom edge, straight down)

Next week, we’ll talk in more detail about sizing, so you can get it just how you want!

  1. Would any type of yarn work, as long as it’s 3 light? I have a bunch of Caron Cotton Ripple cakes in my stash that I need to find a use for.
