Ch 32 (multiple of 4)

Row 1: In the 4th ch from the hook, work a sc. *ch 3, 1 sc into the next chain, ch 3, skip 2 chains, 1 sc into the next ch. Repeat from * across.

Row 2: Ch 3 and turn. Skip the first sc, *(1 sc, ch 3, 1 sc) in the chain 3 space. Chain 3, then skip (1 sc, 3 ch, 1 sc). Repeat from * to end, then work a sc into the turning chain space.

Repeat row 2 until the dishcloth is 9 inches tall or desired height.

To make the dishcloth with no hanging loop: After you finish the last row, fasten off and weave in the ends.

To make the dishcloth with a hanging loop: After you finish the last stitch of the last row, ch 10, then join in the same turning chain space to connect to form the loop.  Fasten off and weave in the ends.
