Instructions:

Ch 55 (multiple of 6+1)

Row 1: In the 4th ch from the hook, work 2 dc. *Skip two ch then work a sc in the next ch. skip 2 ch and in the next ch, work 4 dc. There will be 3 ch left on the row. Skip the next two ch, and in the very last ch, work a sc.

Row 2: Ch 3 and turn. Work 2 dc in the sc from the previous row. *Sc in the center space of the fan from the previous row (area in between the posts right in the center). Next, work 4 dc in the sc in between the next two fans. Work a sc in the turning chain space to finish the row.

Repeat row 2 until the piece is approximately 50 inches long or desired length.

Do not fasten off yet and place stitch markers as shown below. I did every other shell, placing it in the space in center of the shell. It also helps to fold up the other edge as shown and place the buttons where you want them to be to give you an idea of how it will look:

How to do the button loop row:

Without fastening off from the previous row, turn your work (no turning chain). Work a slip stitch in each stitch across. When you get the first stitch marker, chain 6, the slip stitch into the next stitch. Repeat across, working a slip stitch into each stitch across and working a chain 6 at each stitch marker. At the end of the row, work a slip stitch into the turning chain space.

Before fastening off, be sure your button can pass through easily. If not, you will need to add more chains to your loop.

Fasten off. Sew buttons at the other end, making sure they line up with the loops that you’ve created. Weave in any ends and you’re finished!
