The Pumpkin Muffin Cowl is a lovely and super cozy cowl featuring a fun split shoulder detail and a toasty fold over around the neck. This is a wonderful pattern to use up a special skein of yarn too!

Pumpkin Muffin Cowl
By Jennifer Dickerson
Materials:
Sizing:- 6.5 mm K crochet hook
- 300 yards of aran weight yarn (I used 2 skeins of Vidalana Tweedy Sheep by KnitCrate in the "Pumpkin Spiced Everything" colorway)
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Tape measure
- 20 inches tall (unfolded)
- 23 inch circumference
Instructions:
Note: The first part of the cowl (the split) is worked in rows, the second part is joined then worked in rounds. I did 13 rows worked flat and 21 rounds (34 total for the entire piece)
Ch 75 (multiple of 3)
Row 1: Work a dc into the 4th ch from the hook. Ch 1, then work a dc into the next chain. *Skip the next chain, then work a dc into the next chain, chain 1, double crochet into the next chain. Repeat from * across until one chain remains. Work a double crochet into the last chain.
Rows 2-13: Chain 3 and turn. Work (dc, ch 1, dc) in each ch 1 space (center of each "V" from the previous row). At the end of the row, work a dc into the turning chain space.
At this point we will join our piece together to begin working rounds. After finishing row 13, turn your work, then join with a slip stitch into the turning chain space at the end of row. Then we can begin working rounds!
Rounds 14-34: Ch 3, then work (dc, ch 1, dc) into each ch 1 space (center of each "V") from the previous round. Join with a slip stitch in the top most chain (3rd chain up) to close the round.
Weave in any ends and you're finished!
Note: To make your cowl taller, simply work more rounds of the pattern.

How can I size this for a child? I make everything in 3s. One for me, one for my 5 year old and one for my 11 year old 😊😍
ReplyDeleteHello! Measure their heads around their ears, adding an inch or two for comfort pulling it over. Then make your starting chain and first row that length.
DeleteI'm so excited to make the Pumpkin Muffin Cowl! What do you mean when you say, "Aran weight yarn"? Thanks!
