Welcome to the 2022 Fiber Flux Spring Crochet Along...hooray! Today marks week one of the CAL and we'll be learning about the gorgeous project we'll be making...the Botanical Garden Shawl! This is a lovely wrap that you can wear year round, is easy to stitch up, and it extra fun to play with color striping combinations too!
We will be going over a few things today to begin:
- Introduction to the project
- Supplies
- A note about sizing (more info about that next week too)
- Schedule of the CAL
- Where to connect with other makers
The CAL will be divided over the next few weeks, so we'll tackle each part bit by bit. Scroll down for the schedule with actual dates and what we'll be doing on each day/week.
*This is a self-paced project, so definitely go at the speed you feel most comfortable. The instructional videos and posts will be up forever and you will always be able to go back and watch again and again!
Here is a quick video introduction to the CAL and more information about supplies too:
Materials Needed:
- 6.0 mm "J" crochet hook
- 1320 yards of worsted weight yarn (medium/4 on the yarn weight scale) I used 11 balls of Wander by Furls in this order: Surf, Peninsula, Tundra, Bergamot, Aurora, Dragonfruit, Fawn, Sandbar, Snow, Alabaster, and Mist.
- Tapestry Needle
- Scissors
- Tape Measure
A note about sizing...the finished shawl in the pictures measures 23 inches wide and 86 inches long. If you would like to adjust the size of the shawl, you'll want to adjust the yarn amounts accordingly too. Next week we'll talk more about making the shawl wider/narrower with stitch multiples and making it longer/shorter with number of rows worked too!
- Thursday, April 28: Introduction & Supplies
- Thursday, May 5: Stitch Pattern & Color Changes
- Thursday, May 12: Shawl Completion & Finish Work
- Thursday May 19: Reveal & Project Recap
