For this tutorial I’m using an L hook and some bulky weight yarn. However, you can try any weight you like just look for the recommended hook size on the yarn label.
To begin our crochet closed shell stitch, we’ll put a slip knot on our hook, then work the chain. This stitch is a multiple of 6+1. For the swatch in this tutorial, I did 19 chains.
Next, work 2 double crochet into the 4th chain from the hook,
Next, skip 2 chains, then work a single crochet into the next chain.
Then, skip 2 chains, then work 4 double crochet into the next chain,
After that, skip 2 chains then work a single crochet into the next chain,
Skip 2 chains then work 4 double crochet into the next chain.
At the end, skip two chains and then in the very last chain, work a single crochet to finish off the row.
To begin row 2, chain 3 and turn.
Work 2 double crochet into the single crochet from the previous row,
Single crochet into the center space of the shell from previous row (area in between the posts-right in the center),
Next, work 4 double crochet into the single crochet from the previous row (stitch in between the two shells),
Single crochet into the center space of the shell from previous row (area in between the posts-right in the center),
Work 4 double crochet into the single crochet from the previous row (stitch in between the two shells),
Work a single crochet into the turning chain space to finish the row.
To continue, repeat row 2 until it is as tall as you like! Happy crocheting!
