Free Crochet Pattern...Stitchy Gift Tags!

To give any gift an extra special touch, make one of these sweet little tags to adorn a gift this season.  The best part is that they can be hung on a tree as an ornament after the gift is opened too!

Sizing (Including edging):
  • 3 inches wide
  • 3.5 inches tall

Materials:
  • Small amounts of yarn in colors of your choice
  • H (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Ribbon

Instructions for a basic tag:
Ch 12
Sc in 2nd ch from hook, then sc in each ch across.
Ch 1 and turn
Work 1 sc in each sc space until piece measures about 2.5 inches across.

Note: if you want stripes like the tag shown above, work two rows of each color.

Edging:
With a contrasting color, tie on yarn and work 1 sc in each space around entire tag.  Join with a sl st and fasten off.

If you'd like to write something on your tag, like the recipient's name, or another sentiment, here's how to work back stitch:

On the tag shown below, I added a blanket stitch edge before I worked the red single crochet edging, here's how to make blanket stitch edging:

I think the red heart is my favorite!  To make a simple one-round heart for your tag, here's the pattern:

When you're all finished, you can hang your tag with a beautiful ribbon or a leftover piece of yarn. Just pull it through one of the holes or use your tapestry needle to pull it through.

Happy Gifting!!
