How To Double Crochet Two Together (dc2tog)

Double Crochet Two Together

The double crochet two together or dc2tog is a common crochet decrease that is easy to do.  The dc2tog is a very easy way to take two stitches and turn them into one stitch. It makes a neat and smooth transition when shaping things like hats and lots more!  Below is a step by step photo tutorial, plus a full video tutorial too!

For this stitch tutorial (both the photos and video below) I’m using #4 worsted weight yarn (Red Heart Super Saver in Shocking Pink) and a 5.0 mm H crochet hook, but you can use any yarn and hook you like!

When you get to the spot in your pattern that instructs you to work a dc2tog, use the instructions below!

How To Work The Double Crochet Two Together Stitch (dc2tog):

  • To begin, wrap yarn around hook and insert hook into the stitch.
  • Next, wrap yarn around hook and bring up a loop (3 loops on the hook).
  • Then, wrap yarn around hook and bring it through the first two loops (two loops on the hook).
  • Wrap yarn around the hook again,

  • Then, insert the hook into the next stitch and bring up a loop (four loops are on the hook).
  • Wrap yarn around hook and bring it through the first two loops (three loops on the hook).
  • Finally, wrap yarn around the hook and bring it through all three loops on the hook.
  • All finished and you are ready to move on with your pattern!
