New Video! How To Use a Ball Winder & Swift

In today's tutorial we'll be exploring how to use a ball winder and a swift.  Have you ever gotten yarn that looks like this?

While gorgeous and fun to look at, it needs to be wound into a ball or yarn cake before actually using it.  Using a ball winder and swift, you can transform your skein into a neat little (center-pull) yarn cake as seen below:

Alternatively, you can use the swift (or friend or chair) to hold the yarn while you wind it by hand too.  The video below will walk you step by step on how to use these handy tools!

  1. I always enjoy your videos (in fact, I credit them with having really gotten me started as a crocheter!). Thanks for this one. My favorite yarn comes in hanks so I quickly invested in a swift and winder. If you haven't already, I'm going to recommend you try an Amish style swift that sits on your table. They're so simple to use (and store) that you won't feel the need for that "third hand" at all. Just a thought. :)
